Fibromyalgia Patients Need Good Mattresses

A mattress should support your body in a neutral position. This is even more important for people who suffer with chronic pain. That is to say that when lying on your back or side, all points along that plane of the body should be touching the mattresses surface comfortably. The mattress should do this without placing undue pressure on joints, which could lead to tingling, numbness or discomfort in the extremities. If your existing mattress is causing these issues now, then it is likely time to replace it. Fibromyalgia sufferers are even more prone to these symptoms of a bad bed.

When testing a new bed, be sure to visit a mattress store. Expect to spend some time there, testing a variety of mattresses by lying in your normal sleeping position for approximately ten minutes. This way, you will get an accurate feel for how the bed is going to support your body. Proper cushioning is essential for reducing the impact of your condition.

Pocket sprung mattresses are very common today and are available in a wide price range. However, it is important to understand that ‘more expensive’ does not mean ‘better’. For that reason, you should be testing mattresses in all price ranges. Avoid the very cheapest, only because too few springs could lead to less support in the areas you need it most and that means increase body pain, which fibro patients definitely don’t need.

A memory foam mattress is also an option. These generally mold to the body better than an innerspring mattress can, but some find that they put off too much heat at night making it hard for some sleepers to get comfortable. This is natural memory foam mattresses rely on body heat to provide that cushioning support that makes them so popular.

Air beds are also becoming more common place today, as are adjustable beds. The air beds are nice for couples who have varying opinions on how firm a bed should be, but they are often not firm enough for some fibro patients. Whereas adjustable beds can be really fitting for those who have sleep apnea, acid reflux, or like to sit up in bed in the evening. However, the adjustable function relies on the mattress bending and shifting which means they can wear out more quickly and that means that you start the process all over again a few years down the road when your fibromyalgia begins to act up more frequently overnight.

A Better Mattress, a Better Back

About 31 million people contend with back pain.  The expense to care for that discomfort is exorbitant.  Most cases of back pain are not a result of a known defect, but instead muscle-driven soreness.  The exact cause often remains unknown.

There are a number of traditional and alternative treatments available to back pain patients today, but that isn’t always enough to ease the ongoingdistress.  A better mattress can help those with back pain, particularly those who are most sore in the morning hours.

There is not a single type of mattress that is recommended for all back pain patients.  Instead, it comes down to personal preference.  Some will find that a stiffer mattress provides better support where it is needed, while others turn to a soft memory foam mattress to ease the strain.

That being said, a mattress that is too firm is not thought to be as supportive to the spine as a medium-firm mattress.  The ability to sink into the plush surface a certain degree means that the natural curves of the body are accommodated for.  When comparing two different spring-style mattresses, it is a general rule that the more springs there are, the better mattress will be.  However, when looking for the best, memory foam mattresses are rarely beat.  If you prefer the feel of a spring mattress or can’t afford to replace your existing mattress, it might be wise to buy memory form mattress pad.  The few inches of foam will not be enough to overcome a horribly worn bed, but can add an additional level of comfort to a subpar mattress.

It is essential -- especially for those who have back pain, but also for those who want to avoid the same fate -- to know when it is time to replace a mattress.  A good rule is to invest in a new mattress every ten years, however, if you find that your bed has lumps or valleys, then you may have to make the purchase even sooner.  It is in these situations, when a mattress is old, or lacks its original form, that a pad will not be enough.  For your back, consider a new bed a very wise investment.

Is There A Such Thing As A Natural Memory Foam Mattress?

Sometimes, consumers who were ready to buy memory foam mattresses get hesitant when they hear about the synthetic, possibly carcinogenic chemicals used in standard memory foam. They are also bothered by the fact that memory foam mattresses can trap debris. They then begin to wonder if there is something just as comfortable but healthier for the user. The answer is yes, there is.

Natural memory foam mattresses are made of latex, a natural material made from processed rubber tree sap. Original latex mattresses lost favour with customers long ago because they were too firm. Now, manufacturers are finding ways to soften up the material so that it feels almost identical to traditional memory foam mattresses.

Natural memory foam mattress provides the best of both worlds: comfort and improved health. But that combination of features is not cheap. Latex mattress often cost upwards of $1,500. That is a lot considering that a regular mattress can be purchased for much less than 500 in most cases.  For those that can afford it, it is a good investment, but there are other options for those who cannot spend that much.

Pocket sprung mattresses are made of springs that are not interconnected. Standard mattress springs are interconnected, meaning they can’t individually respond the weight they support. This leads to increased pressure on the back, hence the growing market for other types of mattresses. Pocket sprung mattresses are much more supportive and apply much less pressure on the back because the springs are free to respond freely without being pulled by other springs.

These mattresses can be wonderful options for people who have not been satisfied with their current mattress. The best part is that they are not nearly as expensive as natural memory foam mattresses. That’s right, they cost much less and still proved a markedly improved sleeping experience.

Back Pain Equals A New Mattress

There is really nothing good about having back pain. Back pain gets in the way of everything you do including walking, running, and even sleeping. If you are the type who looks for a positive in every situation, you could say that getting a new mattress is the positive to having back pain.

Your personal situation and your current furniture will determine what you need to buy. If you have a waterbed, you certainly want to replace that. Not only can the waterbed be hard on your back, but getting on and off the waterbed can be just about impossible. Mattresses for back pain will be firm. You don’t want a mattress that is going to bulge up and stay that way. You don’t want a mattress that is going to sag over time either. A bulging mattress and a sinking mattress will do nothing to help with your back pain and you will be right back to where you started. Instead, you want a memory foam mattress. The memory foam mattresses are firm, but they mold to your body shape, providing the most back support.

When you are shopping for a memory foam mattress, you will come across memory foam mattress toppers. Memory foam mattress toppers are a less expensive alternative to a memory foam mattress and do the same thing for your back as the mattress would. If your current mattress is not loaded with bulging or sagging spots, then a memory foam mattress topper is a viable option. You may also come across memory foam pillows. These pillows are a great accessory, especially when you have a memory foam mattress or memory foam mattress topper. Just like the mattress or the topper, the pillows will conform to your body and provide a wonderful night of sleep.

Which Is Better, A Pocket Sprung Mattress or Memory Foam Mattress?

With all of the different mattress options on the market today, it is no wonder that people are left to question which is better and which one to invest in, especially since investing in a good mattress is not cheap, but is necessary for a peaceful night’s rest.

The first thing you must know is that a plain old mattress with the typical springs just won’t do, if you want to truly upgrade your mattress for optimal comfort. Nope, instead you need to be considering either a pocket sprung mattress or natural memory foam mattress. So, let’s take a look at both so that your decision will be a bit easier.

The pocket sprung mattress has springs like your cheap, old mattresses. The difference is in the number of springs. The pocket sprung mattress features 1,000 to 3,000 springs, whereas your typical spring mattress has only 325 springs. The increased number of springs makes it possible for your mattress to fit the grooves and contours of your body.

The memory foam mattress, on the other hand, has absolutely no springs. A memory foam mattress sits on your bed frame just like the typical spring mattress or the pocket sprung mattress, but it is made with a material that uses your body heat to shape and mold to your body’s grooves and contours. These mattresses are known to resume their original shape faster than other mattresses.
In the end, when you are shopping, you will have to decide which mattress between the pocket sprung mattress and the memory foam mattress you want to buy for your bedroom. You will have to decide if the increased number of springs appeals to you or if the idea of having no springs appeals to you.

Memory Foam Mattress, The Best Mattress Option

Shopping for a mattress can seem like a daunting task, especially if you have not shopped for one in a while. There are so many different options out there! But, if you will just remember ‘memory foam mattress,’ you will certainly be on the right track to finding the best mattress option out there.

Ignore the commercials and ads for the other mattresses. Instead, as you work to buy memory foam mattress options should be carefully considered based on how they conform to the contours of your body. In other words, the pressure in the places of your body that press the hardest against the mattress should be less. Also, the best memory foam mattress should not need a box spring underneath it in order to work properly.

To help save a bit of money, you may be tempted to buy a foam mattress pad, instead. While this is an option, it is not a viable option in most circumstances. Let’s face it: you sleep on your mattress EVERY night. Therefore, your mattress, after a short amount of time, shows wear in the form of bumps and lumps that are now becoming uncomfortable. Then there is the sagging box spring mattress. The foam mattress pad will not solve the bumps and lumps issue, nor will it solve the sagging issue. Rather, the bumps, lumps and sagging are just as visible and uncomfortable with the mattress pad.

Instead, it will behoove you to shop for a memory foam mattress. Besides, if you invest in the best memory foam mattress you are in turn investing in a good night’s sleep. If you invest in a good night’s sleep, you are, in turn, investing in a productive and happy day. So, memory foam mattress equals the best mattress option.

3 Reasons You Should Buy a Memory Foam Mattress Now

You’ve probably seen many advertisements for memory foam mattresses and even given purchasing one some thought.  The commercials seem to promise so much!  As so many people admit to not getting enough sleep on a regular basis, the interest in memory foam mattresses is understandable.  With so many products on the market, it can be difficult to know how to get started.  But here are three reasons why you should buy memory foam mattress right now.

Memory Foam Mattress
Prevent pain.  Especially for those with back pain, a memory foam mattress may be the best option.  As the heat from your body penetrates the mattress, the foam begins to soften, leading to a personal fit that is custom tailored to your body.  While many people believe the firmer the mattress the better, the truth is that for those suffering back pain, the opposite may be true.

Undisturbed rest.  For those with a partner who tosses and turns in the night, sleep can prove to be difficult!  Constant waking up and trying to return to sleep doesn’t allow the body to get the deep rest we all need.  Memory foam mattresses significantly reduce the impact your partner will make by moving around in bed, leading to better rest for you both.

Tap into the benefits of sleep.  A good night’s sleep has been linked to many rejuvenating benefits, from increased performance at work, reduced stress and even weight loss and overall immune system health.  While we spend millions collectively on gyms, diet products and the like, regular, undisturbed sleep is one of the single best things we could do for our bodies and minds.  Memory foam mattresses offer the opportunity to tap into the healing power of sleep.
