What is an Organic Mattress?

Over the last decade, we’ve all heard about the health impacts of organic foods and drinks.  Pretty much everyone everywhere either recommends to use them, or at least agrees that organic items are good for you.  But did you know that it is not just food and drinks that can fall under the organic umbrella?  Clothes, health and beauty products, bedding, and even mattresses can now be labeled organic if they meet the proper requirements, meaning they must be made with non-toxic materials that are certified under the USDA’s guidelines.   While they may not be a global top seller like memory foam mattresses, organic mattresses still offer the comfort and support of their non-organic counterparts, and they also come with the peace of mind of knowing that you’re not in nightly contact with potentially harmful chemicals that other mattresses are made of.

There are lots of reasons to buy an organic mattress.  With a mattress that is certified as organic, you know you are getting a product that is good for both you and the environment.  There are no toxic chemicals or other synthetic materials in the fibers, springs, or any other part of your mattress, and none of these were used in the manufacturing process as well.  Organic mattresses are also hypo-allergenic, they help regulate your temperature to keep you comfortable while you sleep, they are sustainable and biodegradable, and they are naturally flame resistant.

Natural Memory Foam Mattress
Now, you might be thinking that there is no possible way that an organic mattress can be as comfortable as a traditional mattress.   Sadly for you, you are wrong.  In addition to all the great features described above, organic mattresses or natural memory foam mattress are known for being extremely comfortable, offering long-lasting support and durability so that you wake up feeling refreshed and rested for years to come.   Like regular mattresses, organic mattresses come in many sizes and styles, so if it’s a medium-firm California king you’re looking for, you will be able to find an organic alternative to suit you.

Organic products have become commonplace in our grocery stores, pharmacies, and other retailers.  Now that they’re becoming more mainstream, the options for purchasing organic anything are expanding, and mattresses and other bedding materials are no exception. If you want the absolute best for you and the environment, make sure organic mattresses are on your radar when it’s time to replace your bed.

How to Choose the One That’s Right for You

You may think that choosing a new comforter for your bed is a simple task.  You just go to the store and pick one out, and that’s that, right?  Wrong.  There are lots of different types of comforters out there, and when you consider how much time you’re actually going to be spending with said comforter, you may want to put a little more consideration into the selection process.

Luxury Comforter
Probably the most important factor to consider when choosing a new luxury comforter is the warmth the blanket will provide.  If you live in south Florida and tend to get hot when you sleep, then you probably don’t want a comforter that is designed for keeping Minnesotans warm in January.  The same can be said for the opposite; if you like lots of warmth when you sleep, you don’t want to choose a lightweight comforter that won’t really warm you up at all.  Many comforters come with some indication on the packaging of how much warmth they will provide, but if they don’t, you can usually still get an idea of the thickness and warmth.  If you’re buying online, be sure to read the reviews to see what other consumers are saying.

Another feature to consider is the fabric style.  Remember, you and this comforter are going to be spending every night together, so you want to be sure that you choose something that is comfortable.  Yes, looks do matter and you do want it to match the rest of your bedroom’s décor, but the feeling of the fabric and the level of comfort it will provide is just as important.  Make sure you choose something that you know you can sleep well with for years to come.

Buying comforters can be a lot of fun, but you shouldn’t ever just run to the store and pick up the first one you like.  Take it out, touch the fabric, feel the thickness of the comforter, and let this guide your decision.   If you can’t do this because you’re shopping online, make sure you read all the stats and take a peek at the reviews.  You spend a third of your life in bed – why not make it as comfortable as possible?

Choosing the Right Duvets To Meet Your Needs

Whether you happen to be shopping for your bedroom, your guest bedroom, or your child’s room, choosing the ideal duvets for your home can be overwhelming at times. Not sure where to turn? This brief overview may be of assistance.

Fill Options

White Duck Feather Duvet
As you begin to look around for the right luxury duvet, one of the first set of options you may encounter is the variety of fillings available. Down is one of the most common. It’s the plumage that you may find under a duck or goose’s feathers. Fluffy and soft, it’s easily the warmest filling you may find, but it can also be one of the more expensive options on the market. You may find cheaper options, though, as you look to a combination of down and feather fillings. It can create that warm filling you want without the higher price tag. There are also some synthetic fillings available. Most are made from polyester. They tend not to be as comfortable as down, but they are typically very warm.

Tog Ratings

You should also consider the Tog rating of the duvets you’re considering. The higher the rating, the warmer the duvet will be, so think about the season in which you’ll be using the blanket most before you make your choice. Summer duvets typically come in a 3 to 4.5 tog rating. If you’re looking for something that falls a bit more in the middle, 7.5 to 9 togs will usually do. If, on the other hand, you need something to snuggle up under during the cold winter winds, you probably want to go with something that hits 10 to 13.5 togs.

Buying for Children

If you plan to buy a duvet for a child, you may want to consider the following. Kids under the age of ten need a blanket that is lighter than adults do. They tend to stay warmer than adults, so go with about 4.5 to 6 togs. Older children could choose a higher rated blanket, depending on the warmth of their bedrooms.

Should you Buy a Memory Foam Mattress Topper?

Most owners of traditional spring mattresses will tell that after a few years, they’re ready for a new one.  These mattresses have a tendency to wear down over time, delivering less and less support until, one day they’re just not comfortable anymore.  The big lump under your hip and the spring poking your shoulder are sure signs that a replacement is needed.  Of course, most of the mattress hype these days seems centered around memory foam mattresses, and there’s a good reason for that.   These mattresses are incredibly comfortable, supportive, and will last a long time.  Unfortunately, they come with a heftier price tag than the spring mattresses, and this can be a deal breaker for a lot of people.  Luckily, there is an alternative that can give you all the benefits of memory foam without the price tag – memory foam mattress toppers.

Memory foam mattress toppers are exactly what they sound like.  Instead of a full sized mattress, these toppers are few inches thick and fit directly over your existing mattress.   They’re usually fairly lightweight and a lot less expensive, but they still come with all the good stuff that memory foam is known for.  Foam mattress toppers will contour to your unique shape, evenly distributing your body weight and providing just the right amount of support.   Of course your old mattress will be right underneath providing a measure of support as well, but you won’t even be able to feel it with a memory foam mattress topper.

If you are in the market for a new mattress but not quite ready to pay the higher prices for a memory foam mattress, consider a topper instead. This will give you the support and comfort you’re after, and you can save some money and still get a few more years out of your current mattress.

What’s So Great about Memory Foam Mattresses?

Memory Foam Mattress
Since you spend more than a third of your life sleeping, there is absolutely no reason you shouldn’t be doing it on the most comfortable mattress possible.  Why spend 8 hours a night resting on something that is lumpy, or has springs you can feel, or is just plain uncomfortable?  Yet this is what so many people have suffered through with their standard innerspring mattress…until memory foam mattresses hit the scene and became one of the most popular mattresses of all time – and for good reason.

Memory foam mattresses are completely unique in how they contour to your body, delivering the maximum level of comfort to you while you sleep.  The dense foam inside your mattress shapes to your body, providing even support to every inch of you.  You’ve probably seen the ads on television where the person presses their hand into the foam and, like magic, their handprint stays even after they’ve pulled their hand back.  This is exactly what happens when you lay on a memory foam mattress – the foam responds to your weight, distributing it evenly and supporting just where it needs to without any springs or lumps pushing back uncomfortably into your body.

In addition to providing incredible support and comfort while you sleep, memory foam mattresses are also known for their durability and their low maintenance.  Made of the best quality memory foam, this is the best mattress for back pain, because it provides necessary support to the back without being too rigid or stiff. Unlike spring mattresses, memory foam does not have to be rotated or flipped, which, let’s be honest, is never a fun job.  They are also long lasting and will not wear out or lose their support like spring mattresses.

It’s really no wonder why memory foam mattresses have become one of the fastest sellers around.  Consumers across the globe are realizing the huge benefits to this type of mattress, and the hours of peaceful and comfortable sleep that come with the purchase of a luxury memory foam mattress makes for rested and refreshed wake ups.
