Make Your Small Bedroom Feel Bigger With a Divan Bed

Small bedrooms are not an uncommon feature in homes today. Especially in cities, where hundreds of thousands, or even millions of people must find a corner to claim as their own. The apartments, townhouses, and even more conventional homes will sacrifice size for location.

Unfortunately, furnishing a small bedroom can be difficult; challenging, yes, but not impossible. There are so many mattress and bedding options today, that everyone can find something to fit their room, regardless of the size.

When filling a small bedroom, consider furniture pieces and bedframes that can multifunction. Instead of a traditional bed and dresser, you might choose a bed with built in storage. There are several different styles of beds that offer the added drawers today.

Another option is to consider divan beds. These are frames that are little more than a box frame to set the box springs and mattresses atop. The headboards are very minimalistic and there are no added details – such as the footboard – that would take up extra space in the small room. These beds come in all of the traditional sizes. You can find a double divan bed that can be pushed up to a wall in the room to function much like a daybed. There are also full king size divan beds for rooms that are just large enough to afford such luxury.

When it comes to storage in a tight space, consider built-in shelving and drawers that can be constructed to perfectly fit the allotted space. Another great idea is to fit existing closets with mirrored doors. This will give the illusion of added space and will make the room brighter by reflecting the natural light. Finally, avoid additional furniture pieces, such as night stands, that take up valuable real estate within the room. Instead, hang small, narrow shelves and consider wall hung or overhead lighting to avoid the need for tabletop lamps.

What Size Divan Bed Should I Buy?

If you are unsure of the size of divan bed you should buy, it may be because you are buying your first bed. Perhaps you have recently moved into your first apartment and have no idea about decorating and furnishings. Don't worry. It is actually quite easy to decide what size bed you should buy.

The first thing to consider is the size of your space. The smaller it is, the smaller your divan bed should be. A king size divan, for example, would be too big for a studio apartment, and a single divan bed would seem too small in a big, spacious master bedroom. You want to create balance. You want a bed that compliments the size of the room, big enough to stand out but not so big it swallows the room.

Second, you want to consider the number of people sleeping in it. Will you be sleeping alone or with your three kids and two dogs? Obviously, a higher number of people in the bed require a bigger bed. Also, take your future into account. Do you plan to marry or have children soon? If so, getting at least a double divan bed or possibly even a king size divan bed may save you a lot of hassle later.

Last, but certainly not least, consider your budget—and don't go over. Spending more than you planned can feel fine in the moment, but it is bound to be an issue later, especially if you have a whole room to furnish. A bunch of small, seemingly harmless purchases add up quickly, and you may find yourself regretting the fact that you did not stick to your budget. Your bed is where you spend a good portion of your life, so be sure to get the right one for you.

Doing The Divan Beds Dance

Do you ever wonder why some of your friends are practically dancing when they get up in the morning and why others are dragging themselves around like zombies? The answer is right underneath you each night. It’s your bed! The bed you sleep in every night makes ALL the difference in the morning attitude. Divan bed owners are definitely doing the divan beds dance!
Divan Bed

“Why the dance?,” you may ask. Divan beds allow for extra comfort each night. The base is firm, which keeps your mattress from buckling. Even better, though, divan beds have built-in storage, which means even if you have a fairly small flat, you’re going to find something that meets both storage and sleep needs in one package.

In this day and age, everyone seems to be downsizing. In fact, maybe that’s why you are in the market for a new mattress yourself! When you downsize your home, a downsize in either the number of bedrooms or the overall space often comes along as well. That usually means that you must downsize your bed too. You might be wondering, then, how you could possibly do the divan beds dance if you have to get a smaller bed than what you already have. It’s actually all in the divan bed frame. Instead of trying to fit all of your dressers in the room along with your bed, you can get rid of a dresser and buy a divan bed. That means you get one of the grand king size divan beds and storage all at the same time! That is something to dance about, right? Don’t want the king size divan bed? That’s okay, you can buy a double divan bed and still get that extra storage!

Whether you are buying one of the king size divan beds or a double divan bed, you will be among those who are doing the divan beds dance every morning.

What To Do About Bed Sheets

Unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock all of your life, you know that there are many different choices when it comes to cotton bed sheets. In fact, a quick visit to a local brick and mortar that sells cotton bed linen and you will be overwhelmed with the choices in the area of cotton bed sheets.

Rather than going shopping for your new cotton bed sheets blindly, you should walk in knowing at least the type of cotton bed linen you want. Once you have decided the type of cotton bed sheets you want, you can decide on the specific patterns or colors. It is suggested that you go with patterns and colors that match your bedroom décor, which is not difficult to do, given the number of choices out there.

Wondering which type of cotton bed sheets you should select? The answer is actually quite simple. You want cotton bed sheets that are of the utmost comfort. After all, you are going to be relaxing and sleeping on these sheets that you buy. If you place stiff or scratchy sheets on your bed, you will not get optimal relaxation and sleep, and thus will not be as productive as possible the following day. Therefore, you want to look for sheets that have the highest thread count and the best cotton. Egyptian cotton bed linen is exactly that. It’s made with Egyptian cotton, which is the finest you can find. The thread count in Egyptian cotton bed linen is typically 400 or higher. While there are other options out there, this is probably the best one. You simply can’t find a better selection on the market today than Egyptian cotton.

It is true that the higher the thread count in bed sheets, the higher the price that you are going to pay. But, seriously, who can put a price on a good night’s sleep?

Should You Go with a Double Divan or a King Size for your Flat?

Upgrading to new flat offers lots of exciting decorating possibilities, and the right divan for your flat is often the first purchase made.  There are many considerations to make when purchasing a divan bed, and many find themselves toggling between a decision on a king size or double divan bed.  Here are some things to consider when making this decision.

First, consider the actual size.  Simply looking at the bed isn’t enough when it comes to knowing whether it will fit in a certain space in your flat.  A double divan bed is
Divan Bed
typically 137 X 190 centimeters.  The King is 198 X 203 centimeters.  A “California King” is 182 X 213 centimeters.  If your bedroom simply won’t allow room for anything other than a double divan bed, that decision is made quickly just by being aware of the size.

Are there advantages or differences to owning these differently sized beds?  There certainly can be.  Two people sleeping in a king size bed have the same amount of personal room as if they were each sleeping in a twin (or single) size bed.  This can be an important consideration for sleep space, especially if one or both people tend to toss or turn during the night.  However, if your flat is accessed through a narrow hallway or your doorways are narrow, a king size bed can be very difficult, if not impossible, to get into the room.  A single person may want to go instead with a double bed.  King size beds may also not be tall enough for the taller people – it would be important to test this out first and determine whether it meets your needs.  Bedding will also be more expensive for a king size divan beds than for a double.  Knowing your budget and your sleep needs, plus your room limitations will ensure you make the best decision!

Fight Shrinking Living Space With a Divan Bed

If you live somewhere with limited space, it can be hard to fit both a sofa and a bed in your living space. Divan beds are a great choice if you don’t have a lot of space but want your space to look as streamlined as possible.

So what’s a divan bed? These are sofa beds or futons – they serve as a couch during the day and then convert to being beds at night. For instance, if you live in an efficiency or one-room flat, you might not want both a sofa and a bed. A divan, whether it’s a single divan bed or double divan bed, can knock out both pieces of furniture in one.

You can get divan beds in multiple sizes – particularly, you can get them in single or double sized. Moreover, divan beds come in all manner of colors and fabrics. If you want something classy, go for leather. You can dress down a room with casual plaid cotton or go for something in between.

If your living space is bigger, you can also get a divan bed for guests. The divan bed can serve as a couch most of the time, and then when people stay over, they can sleep on it. Its good way to create a guest room if you don’t have space for a separate one.

When shopping for divan beds, know your price range and have a general idea of what it is you want. This can help you to simplify your search, and it will save you time and money at the same time. You might want to read reviews and talk to people before buying. It’s always a good move to see a divan bed before buying. Photos can be misleading, so it’s wise to be able to see, touch, and sit on them first.
