What To Do About Bed Sheets

Unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock all of your life, you know that there are many different choices when it comes to cotton bed sheets. In fact, a quick visit to a local brick and mortar that sells cotton bed linen and you will be overwhelmed with the choices in the area of cotton bed sheets.

Rather than going shopping for your new cotton bed sheets blindly, you should walk in knowing at least the type of cotton bed linen you want. Once you have decided the type of cotton bed sheets you want, you can decide on the specific patterns or colors. It is suggested that you go with patterns and colors that match your bedroom décor, which is not difficult to do, given the number of choices out there.

Wondering which type of cotton bed sheets you should select? The answer is actually quite simple. You want cotton bed sheets that are of the utmost comfort. After all, you are going to be relaxing and sleeping on these sheets that you buy. If you place stiff or scratchy sheets on your bed, you will not get optimal relaxation and sleep, and thus will not be as productive as possible the following day. Therefore, you want to look for sheets that have the highest thread count and the best cotton. Egyptian cotton bed linen is exactly that. It’s made with Egyptian cotton, which is the finest you can find. The thread count in Egyptian cotton bed linen is typically 400 or higher. While there are other options out there, this is probably the best one. You simply can’t find a better selection on the market today than Egyptian cotton.

It is true that the higher the thread count in bed sheets, the higher the price that you are going to pay. But, seriously, who can put a price on a good night’s sleep?

What’s the Softest Possible Bed Linen?

One of the main pleasures of curling up in bed to sleep is pulling up the sheets and being wrapped in softness.  After the mattress has been chosen, the colors considered and the room decorated, many people find themselves looking for the softest possible bed linen.  With the popularity of microfiber bed linen, the craft of finding cotton bed sheets that are comfortable and affordable is becoming a lost art.  Here are some tips for finding your best cotton bed linen!

Check the thread count.  This literally means the number of threads per square inch in the cloth.  The higher the thread count, the softer the sheet.  While the average thread count for sheets is around 200, anything over that number is heading toward the luxury category.  Will you pay more for this privilege?  Yes.  But ask anyone who has experienced the pleasure of high thread count cotton bed sheets, and you will find it is well worth the investment.

For quality and comfort, Egyptian cotton bed linen is still the king of comfort!  Starting at 400 thread count, these sheets are crafted for comfort and softness.  Is there really such a difference in the kind of cotton used?  Turns out there certainly are!  Egyptian cotton fibres are longer and thinner than other forms of cotton.  This enables manufacturers to create a very thin thread, leading to higher thread count per square inch than would otherwise be possible.  But the tight weave is not the only advantage.  These threads are also less likely to break or pill.  Shorter threads, even at a higher thread count, are more prone to breakage and do not wear over time as effectively as Egyptian cotton does.  So, for the ultimate in luxury bedding, Egyptian cotton bed linen is the way to go!

Should I Buy Egyptian Cotton Bed Linens?

If you have ever spent the night at a cheap hotel or bought discount, bargain-basement linens without reading the label, you know all too well how scratchy and uncomfortable cheap sheets can be. Most people do not realize how important good sheets are until they sleep on some that are poor quality. It may seem insignificant, but linen quality can help you get (or prevent you from getting) a good night’s rest.
Of all the fabric types available, cotton bed sheets are the most ideal. Cotton is especially important in the summer months when the weather is hot and sticky. You definitely don’t want to spend a hot summer night under polyester sheets.  Of all the cotton types, Egyptian cotton is the best. The long, thin, durable cotton threads help this particular type to stand head and shoulders above the rest. For this reason, Egyptian cotton bed linen or sheets are often more expensive than other sheets.
So, should you make the investment in this premium cotton bed linen? Of course, if you have the money. Not everyone can afford to splurge on top-of-the-line bed linens, and that’s okay. There are many comfortable, more affordable, sheet types available to those on a budget. It is much better to sacrifice quality (a bit) and stay within budget than to spend money you do not have on products you cannot afford. However, if you can afford to spring for Egyptian cotton, it is well worth a few extra dollars. This durable cotton is known for its resilience and softness. This means you will be able to get years of use from these sheets. When you consider the money you will be saving by not having to constantly replace the linens, you will actually be spending less money in the long run.

Let’s Talk Cotton—Linens, Sheets, and More

Sheets can be more confusing than you think. Not only do you have to figure out what each piece does, but if you’re in the market for good sheets, you also need to factor materials in as well. Start by thinking about what you need.

Fitted sheets sit directly on the mattress. They’re tough to fold, but they’re the perfect barrier between you and the mattress. Flat sheets sit on top of that. They’re the part that you’ll snuggle under night after night. The duvet goes on the top of that. In some cases, you may need a blanket between for those really cold nights, but the right duvet will be designed to keep you warm enough on its own.

Once you understand a bit about the pieces, it’s time to consider the material itself. Many consumers will by cotton bed sheets for their room. Why? There are actually lots of reasons. First, it’s easily accessible in terms of pricing, comfort, and design. Second, it’s easy to maintain. Unlike other materials, cotton sheets only need to get thrown in your washer, then in the dryer. Added pressing usually isn’t a necessity. Finally, it feels amazing. Slipping between the sheets for a great night of sleep on cotton bed linen is like nothing else in this world, particularly if you go with the luxury of Egyptian cotton bed linen

For the allergic, investing in a hypoallergenic bed sheet has never been more accessible. Egyptian cotton can be expensive, but it’s comfortable, usually hypoallergenic, and is just as warm if not warmer than regular bed sheets.

A good night’s sleep is just around the corner with the perfect bed sheets!

The Simple Luxury of Cotton Bed Linens

The white fluffy down that surrounds the cotton seed can be transformed into an endless variety of items for our closets and homes. Its great versatility makes cotton an ideal choice for the bedroom as well. Soft, breathable, and comfortable, cotton bed linen is a simple luxury that that turns the everyday experience of going to bed a treat to be savored.

Why Choose Cotton?

There is a reason why most of our clothing is made of cotton: it feels good!  100 percent cotton is soft and smooth. It offers a wonderfully comfortable surface for sleeping. Cotton/polyester blends have a less pleasing texture; it simply does not feel “natural” and may have a sandpaper-like feel to it.

Another advantage of cotton bed sheets over cotton/poly blends is that they are much more breathable. Air can flow through the spaces between the stitches. When you sleep, your body needs to be able to regulate your temperature. Polys trap heat, which can make you sweaty and uncomfortable, possibly interfering with your sleep quality. Yet another benefit: cotton is very durable. It does not pill, and with proper washing and care, a great set of sheets and bed linens will last for years.

Wanting the benefits of cotton with a boost of luxury, many people opt for Egyptian cotton bed linen. Just a few years ago, these linens were incredibly expensive and hard to find. While they are still a bit pricier than regular cotton, they may just be worth the indulgence. They are renowned for their durability and extraordinarily soft texture.

Whether you choose Egyptian or standard cotton linens, you are giving yourself a gift of better sleep and lasting style for years to come. Toss those poly blends and let cotton wow you with its many benefits.

Egyptian Cotton Linens – Worth the Price?

You’ve probably heard countless people extol the virtues of cotton sheets. Did you now, though, that there are many kinds of cotton? There are countless variations of cotton, whether those variations have to do with weave, origin of the fabric itself, or matter of growing.

Cotton is fairly diverse, particularly in the world of bed lines. One of the most popular is American upland, which accounts for a large percentage of production. The best type of cotton, though, is Egyptian cotton, native to the Nile River Valley. This cotton is exceptionally soft and is noticeably different than other cotton sheets.

Understandably, Egyptian cotton sheets are more expensive than your everyday cotton sheets. Is it worth it? Probably, especially if you have a discerning taste in fabrics. Egyptian cotton is sewn well and fairly durable, so it will stand up to washing. Sometimes, it can be difficult to tell what kind of cotton something is. The best way to tell is by reading labels. Generally, something that simply says it is 100% cotton is not Egyptian – Egyptian cotton is definitely a selling point, and it would be highly unusual for a seller to leave out this enticing detail on the packaging.

To get the most out of your Egyptian cotton bed linen, as you would with any cotton bed linen, pay attention to thread count. Thread counts that are higher mean the sheets are softer, more durable, and higher quality. High thread counts generally correlate to higher cost. However, these is probably a wise investment, as well-made cotton bed linens last longer and are more comfortable, meaning you get better sleep.

Is Linen for You?

If you’ve ever worn a linen shirt or dress, then you know the feel of this high-quality fabric. Linen is remarkably durable and almost canvas-like in its feel. If you are looking for cotton bed linen that lasts, linen itself is a good fabric to consider.

The great weight of linen makes it a good choice for your cotton bed linen. It’s a durable fabric that can keep you warm. A disadvantage is that linen tends to wrinkle very easily. When properly pressed and cared for, though, it tends to look very nice.

So what options besides linen are available for your perusal when you’re choosing cotton bed linen? First, realize that there are various types of cotton as well as styles of weave. The cheapest choice for cotton bed sheets would be American Upland cotton. When a set of sheets says only that it is all cotton, it’s usually this type. It’s economical, but still a good choice if you want the comfort of cotton.

Another variety, which is somewhat mid-grade, is known as Pima cotton. It’s a great choice for cotton bed linen if you want something that is a little better than lower grade. The most expensive is Egyptian cotton sheets. Grown in the Nile River Valley, this is some of the softest cotton available.

Some common weaves are percale, sateen, and Oxford. Sateen has more vertical fibers, giving the sheets a satiny finish. These sheets are very soft to the touch and offer an elegant look. Percale is strong and soft. It’s especially dense and mid-weight, making it a very comfortable choice. Percale washes well, so if you want something durable, this fiber works. Oxford is a little less common. It was originally used in shirts. It’s a heavy weave, and one that’s especially soft. Keep your options open as you choose cotton bed linen, and you’ll make the right choice.
